"As funny as anything he has written."- London Times
"An enormously funny evening."- London Observer
"Hilarious.... The stuff of gleeful recognition." - London Evening Standard
The play, set in the 1970s, sees 4 couples during the evening of Kate and Malcolm's house warming party. All of the couples have their own issues, but none more than Trevor and Susannah who spend the evening drawing everyone else into their hilariously dysfunctional relationship. Kate loses her clothes, Jan gets stuck under Nick, Delia does her best to get two words out of her husband Earnest and poor Malcolm still isn't any good at DIY. A real look at 70s British values through the eyes of today.
Sir Alan Ayckbourn himself send this special message:
With all my very best wishes to the Century Theatre in its new home. Good theatres never die whilst their spirit lives on! Thinking of you all for your opening production.
With permission of Samuel French, The New Centurions present their first ever performance. Written by Alan Ayckbourn and staged many times over the years this play is the last play that was staged when The Century was still in Keswick before it's journey right here to Coalville. Join us as this new amateur theatre group of local talented actors and designers stage this remarkable play.
The New Centurions take their name from The Centurions who were the original group that toured with The Century Theatre in the 1950s and 60s. Paying homage to this unique and admirable group of theatre lovers, we bring their spirit back to life right here in Coalville, just up the road from their origins in 1948.
